Topic: Buddhism in China
Buddhism came from China into Japan.
This class will take a short look at the history of the Buddhism in China and the major traditions, such as Shingon, that were transmitted to Japan. Many of the traditions transmitted to Japan hundreds of years ago, are still part of modern Buddhist practice.

Topic: The Medicine Buddha (The 13 Buddhas in Shingon). The Medicine Buddha has become a popular part of both modern spiritual focus, and Buddhist practice worldwide. Traditionally Medicine Buddha was the focus of physical healing for people, and in modern time that understanding continues. This class proposes to explain some of the psychological and social aspects which the Medicine Buddha addresses.

The Heart Sutra (Hannya Shingyo) in PracticeThe Heart Sutra, Hannya Shingyo, is recited at most every Buddhist service in Hawaii. This short text contains the essence of the wisdom of the Buddha’s; yet it’s meaning is often unknown or misunderstood. This class will introduce how the Heart Sutra is viewed in the Shingon school of Buddhism.
